Helping to refocus on the core with business process and IT outsourcing
Problem:
TechCo experienced massive revenue and share loss in the previous 3 years. An ambitious strategy to transform the company was developed by the management, whereby the organization would be refocused on core competencies. Cash had been conserved through significant cost reductions.

A number of complications were present:
  • Company completely vertically integrated for core products
  • "I don't trust foreigners" mentality
  • 70% of executive team new to the job
  • Scepticism towards outsourcing due to past failures
The Bain team was asked to provide solutions to the following questions:
  • What should be considered for outsourcing?
  • What's best end-game option (best-in-breed vs. one-stop)?
  • How do we rush through Request-for-Proposal (RFP) and negotiations without leaving money on the table?

The client was in the midst of a transformation in its business model. Other activities were simultaneously being outsourced. Time was of the essence - needed to sign contract in less than 6 months.
